The recently formed Southern Wisconsin Land Conversancy purchased the front nine of Decatur Lake Golf Course with the mission to restore the 57 acre parcel on the banks of the Sugar River to wetlands, prairie and oak savannah. This spring 27 acres were planted with sunflowers to serve as a cover crop. This is a one time planting which upon harvest this fall, prairie planting will begin. The harvested seed will be bagged and sold as bird seed to help fund the restoration. This is a one time planting so make a trip to view this lovely display of intense yellow color. Stop by the clubhouse on July 29th or August 5th, both Sundays, where board members and friends of the Conservancy will engage the public to entertain your questions and obtain feedback.
