Past Sugar River Cleanup

The Lake Winnetka Sugar River Improvement Association holds its annual Sugar River Cleanup in Albany, WI, on Saturday, May 21st, from 9 am to 4 pm. Volunteers meet at the Albany American Legion Hall, 300 N Water St., across from the boat ramp. The objectives are to remove as much trash as possible from the river and its banks and clear a navigable path through fallen trees blocking the safe passage of canoes and kayaks. The cleanup needs land volunteers to walk the banks to pick up trash and water volunteers on the river to pick up trash and help clear blockages. Canoes, small boats, chain saws, bow saws, and waders are needed to get the jobs done. Please volunteer your help or equipment. The Association provides trash bags, and local businesses donate food and refreshments.

The cleanup is registered with the American Rivers National River Cleanup. Scout groups earn community service points by helping out.

The Lower Sugar River Watershed graciously thanks the Lake Winnetka Sugar River Improvement Association for tirelessly taking on this yearly cleanup. The river gets cleaned from Albany to Avon Bottoms if enough volunteers show up. Let's do our part to keep the river running free and clear of trash.
