2016 “Seasons of the Sugar River – Metamorphosis” Juried Art Exhibit

The Lower Sugar River Watershed Association (LSRWA) is pleased to announce our third annual juried exhibition, fundraiser, and membership event "Seasons of the Sugar River - Metamorphosis." It will be held from March 11 - April 22, 2016 at the Monroe Arts Center at 1315 11th St., Monroe, WI. The opening reception will be held on Friday, March 11th from 5-7 pm at the Monroe Art Center. The reception will be a chance to meet the artists, see educational and science displays that highlight issues facing the health of the watershed and partake in excellent food and beverage offerings donated by local restaurants.

For this year's show, we invited artists to explore and to create works inspired by changing forms of the natural world at the scale of organisms and landscapes. Also, we invited artists to explore and to create works inspired by biological, zoological, seasonal and cultural transformations evidenced in the watershed. The show will encompass the entire Sugar River Watershed from its headwaters in western Dane County to its confluence with the Pecatonica River in northern Illinois. Through the artistic expression of local and regional artists, we hope to share more broadly the mission of our organization to foster awareness, sense of place, and stewardship of the natural assets of our watershed community. With the support and participation of our artists, the work of the organization will continue to bring people together who love the Sugar River and the rich, productive landscapes of southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois that surround the river and its tributary streams, all of which form our watershed and connect us to each other and to the land. We believe the natural assets of our watershed—the deep agricultural soils, forests and wetland habitats, aquatic environments, and wildlife—are integral to our regional economy and culture, and sustain our lives. We believe that these assets will benefit from our collective stewardship, now and into the future.
