Eighth Annual Juried Art & Science Exhibit Fundraiser

"Seasons of the Sugar River – My Favorite Vistas"

We invite artists to interpret real or imagined favorite wild places within our watershed. These artworks can be presented in a 2-D or 3-D representation. Works can be current or pieces you have already created and shown elsewhere. For more information about this year's theme click here.

Deadline for Call for Art submissions:  September 1, 2022, midnight.

Entry Form: Available in pdf and word format.

Venue: Brodhead Memorial Library - artwork will be on view throughout the library and in the foyer. Scientific posters would be displayed from the picture rails surrounding the meeting room.

Dates: October 18-December 10

Opening Night Gala: Friday October 21 (5-7pm) Gallery talk at 5:30

Exhibition Schedule

Thursday, September 1st: Postmark or electronic email submission deadline for entry by midnight. See exhibit application information below for further submission details.

Thursday, September 15th: Notification of accepted works following the jury process.

Friday, October 14th and Saturday, October 15th Delivery of art to the Brodhead Library for installation, Friday/10 am – 5 pm. Saturday/10 am - 12 noon. LSRWA volunteers will be on-site to accept and sign in the artwork. There will be a pre-arranged time drop-off point in Verona for accepted artworks to be picked-up by LSRWA prior to the show. Monday, October 17th: Exhibit opens 

Saturday, October 21st : Opening Night Gala with Gallery Talk at 5:30pm

Saturday, December 10th: Exhibit ends at 5 pm

Security Notice: The Brodhead Library has security cameras in all the above-mentioned spaces. All 3D artwork would be in a locked display case in the foyer. We would have to synch up this show with our online FASO (Fine Art Sales Online) option so the artwork could be purchased via FASO.

Other Tie-Ins

  1. The library would feature the book, "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak and other books on watersheds, art, science, imagination, and creativity in a stand-alone display and possibly in their story presentations
  2. Children's art workshop held at the library. Taught by Mindy Reinstra and GiGi Mullen. Art stations with projects and featuring a small mural-making activity. Demonstrations using Green County Land and Water Department's interactive watershed model.

Entry Instructions & Checklist

An exhibit entry form is available in pdf and word format for printing or by contacting Jill Lazorchick-Sampson, the Art Show Coordinator (see contact information below).  Please submit the entry form, an image of each artwork (limited to 3 works per artist), and associated documentation as follows:     

Entry form 

  • Name, address, and contact information.
  • Title and other details for each entry submitted, using format examples provided in the form.
  • Signature on the Liability and Originality Agreement form, located on the last page of the entry form.
  • Digital image of each work submitted (limited to 2 works) 
  • All images must be of the actual completed work that is being submitted for the exhibition.  Images must be of the artwork only (no mats, frames, etc.).
  • Submit high-resolution digital JPEG or TIFF image files (300 pixels per inch is standard).  These can be uploaded to a clearly labeled CD, DVD, or thumb drive device for ground mail delivery along with the entry form and associated documents, or attached to an email for electronic submittal of all documents (label the device in permanent ink with your name; however, these devices will not be returned).
  • Label each digital image file using the following format: last name of artist, first name initial, and artwork entry number (to coincide with entry number on the entry form).  Example: Bill Smith’s first entry image would be labeled: SmithB01.jpg and his second entry would be: SmithB02.jpg

Artist statement 

A brief narrative about each submitted work, including a description of how the Sugar River Watershed and the exhibit theme served as inspiration in the creation of the piece.   Due to limited space on the entry form, we recommend appending the narrative on a separate sheet of paper.

Please include your name, address, phone number, and email address on all submittal materials.

Ground Mail & Electronic Submissions

  • Attach all electronic files to: artshowcoordinator@lsrwa.org, with the subject line “LSRWA ART ENTRY”.  Please include a brief note in your email message with your signature block (full name, address, and phone contact information), to ensure proper identification of your submittal.
  • Due to possible inbox size limits, we recommend electronic submissions that exceed a total of 25M (megabytes) be broken into two or more email transmissions, noting the number of transmissions that we should anticipate receiving.

LSRWA will confirm receipt of your submittal within three days.  Should you not receive notification of receipt, please contact Jill Sampson, Art Show Coordinator, or call Jill at 608.214.6591.

Notification of Selected Works

Participating artists will receive notice of their selected juried works via email or regular mail from LSRWA by September 15th, 2022.  Information regarding the production of the publication and transportation of artwork will also be provided at this time.  Every precaution will be taken for the safe handling of works. 

Exhibition Guidelines

  • No artwork is to be removed prior to the end of the exhibit without prior authorization. 
  • Exhibiting artists must be 18 years of age and older.
  • All artwork must be original.
  • Eligible techniques for 2-D works could include media such as photography, painting, drawing, mixed media, and printmaking. 
  • All 2-D work must be delivered with appropriate hardware suitable for hanging.
  • No giclee or reproduction prints will be accepted.
  • Video/Electronic media work will be accepted on a CD, DVD, or thumb drive device.
  • Slide shows are not acceptable.
  • Techniques for 3-D works could include media such as sculpture, textiles, clay, metal, glass, and wood.
  • The jury committee reserves the right not to display any work which fails to meet jury committee expectations.  Jurors will not be given artists’ names to ensure impartiality.

Terms & Conditions

  • There is no fee for exhibiting at The Brodhead Library.
  • This show will have a 70%/15%/15% split between the artist/Brodhead Library/LSRWA.
  • All sales transactions will be via “Seasons of the Sugar River Fine Arts” through FASO/Fine Art Shows Online our online gallery and sales partner. (No library staff will have to deal with sales). Local buyers will arrange for purchased pick-up of artwork and non-local buyers will arrange and pay for shipping in a separate online transaction. 
  • Storage space is not available for artwork packing materials or other such items.
  • Artists are responsible for the transit of accepted artwork to and from the gallery. C.O.D. shipments will not be accepted.

The Lower Sugar River Watershed Association (LSRWA) is a not-for-profit conservation organization based in Brodhead WI, dedicated to empowering citizens with experience and knowledge to steward land and water resources in the Lower Sugar River Watershed. The Seasons of the Sugar River Exhibition is sponsored through a partnership between LSRWA, and the Brodhead Library, and supported by contributions from local food purveyors and merchants.
